Hi all, i am building a 225\6, for my altered wheel base '65 Pro Street Valiant, i was curious to know if there were any larger valves from any chrysler engines or other makes that would fit. i am going do some head work anyway, even if they require some machining. Thanks and if anyone has any other info i would appreciate it all thanks again, SlantFX6

Hey FX6,

Welcome to the board. Sounds like a very cool project. Do you plan on racing it at all in the Slant Six series (see "racing" section of this site)?

I know you can use BB exhaust valves and turn them down if necessary to the proper diameter. Seems to me the 392 Hemi or 383 B exh valves are the right diam for oversize Slant intakes (1.74-5" or so), but I think other BB valves work too.

Many racers install 11/32" valve guides and use SB Chev or SB Ford valves. I have SBC valves in both my motors, and I use them for daily driving and racing. They are about 0.100" longer than stock Slant valves, so they are good for big lift cams too. Ford 300 valves work well too.

Hope this helps,

Lou

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it, what specific valves did you use and what sizes. it is no problem to change valve guides since i am going to rework the head anyway. what other modifcations have you made to your motor. And i would love to make it to a slant six racing event in the next year or two. Thanks again Slant FX6

Mopar parts Cat for 2001 lists 1.5" intake and 1.36" exhaust as stock valves for a slant and then it also has a set of 1.7" in and 1.44" ex listed.
the partnumbers are P4286785 (intake) and P4286786 (exhaust)

The larger ones are described as stainless swirl polished with single square groove for the retainers.

A writeup in Jan 2003 Mopar Collectors guide recently featured a Scamp where the guy used valves from a Ford flathead that were 2.18" that seems really freaken huge to me. My 340 only has 2.02" valves.

Hope This Helps.

FX6,

I used the 1.72/1.50 valves in both my heads, but if I were to do it over I would probably go with 1.78"/1.50" SBF int/SBC exh valves. I've seen all different sizes used, from 1.44"-1.54" exh and 1.7"-1.83" int. I do not consider myself a serious drag racer, but more of a road racer. I do turn pretty high RPM (4500-6000 for extended periods) for a 225 motor, and the car will run low 14s in the quarter.

BTW, Egge machine sells the 1.70/1.44 valves with 3/8" stem for reasonable prices, I've heard.

My cars' buildups are at:

Make sure to blend in the bowls and ports AFTER cutting the bigger valve seats. I did not do this on mine (heads were built 7yrs and 10yrs ago), and everyone says there is a lot of power to be gained there. I plan to do that soon...

Happy building,

Lou
