Post subject: Rod operated BBD
PostPosted: Tue May 13, 2003 6:22 pm
:D Have too much time on my hand this week, was thinking of coverting a Super six BBD to use the stock rod-operated linkage without the fuss of converting over to later throttle cable or new kickdown. Heres what I have for parts 2 BBS complete in all aspects ,2 AFBs as parts sources plus misc. parts gathered over the years. Installation would result in a left-to-right mount identical to a stock BBS application. Will need a conversion plate to mount this and should be able to address shaft length issues as well as choke issues. What do you think :?:

Methinks that using a cable throttle would be easier...

I made a rod operated linkage for my '65 Barracuda with Holley 2280 (BBD replacement) carb. It was a bellcrank affair that used the standard BBS isolator. To make a long story short, it worked but it required an overly heavy spring to make it return to idle and it never did open the throttle 100%. So I replaced it with a cable throttle pedal assembly off of a 68 or 69 Dart. My advice is to go straight to the cable set up. Parts are available, cheap and it works better. You just have to drill a hole or two in the floor board area where the old rod bushing support was mounted and it almost looks like the factory did it.

Seemed like a good idea...
