Long winded story with questions..

I found that the 67 Dart that I just bought had a patch on the fuel tank.
After filling up the tank. I had some spots on my garage floor. When I took a closer look I found that the tank is now leaking in another area. It is in a location that I can see it is on top of the tank, but can't tell from where.

If I have it just over 3/4 it is o.k. So now I have some time to look around for a replacement tank.

Has anyone had experience doing this? Is this something that anyone can do or should it be brought to a garage to have done. ( I do not have a lift)

What else should I expect to do to it while changing the tank? I saw on a web site that there is some sort of insulation (?) to help against rattles, etc. Something like tar paper.. Is there more than one tank for a convertible? Should I change the strap(s) as a normal thing to do?

And last but not least, Where is a place that sells them? I have read some vendors are not very good to buy from. So I will ask for suggestions here.

Car shows at Carlisle (Pa) are coming up often enough to get one there from a vendor.

Again, thanks for your time helping me.

Matt

A new repro tank should be fairly easy to find they make them just up the road from me about an hour. I had a hernia at the time I purchased mine for the Dart so I had the local rad shop here do it for me. If I had been of able body I would have tried to do it myself. FSM is very handy if you can find one.

Good Luck.

I replaced the tank in my son's 63 dart - got one through Quanta (gastanks.com) It was an American Designers replica - JC Whitney sells these also - It went in with no modification and after 2 years we have no problems.

The hardest part for us is getting the gas out of the tank - you need an awful lot of gas gans to hold the fuel even when the guage reads 1/4.

Also remember any sparks will ignite the fumes - NO DROP LIGHTS they explode with a drop of fuel !

I know a junkyard locally that has a 67 Dart GT in it, still has it's gas tank.
If you were local it'd make a cheap/quick fix, buying new would be a better shot, unless your pocket book dictates otherwise....
