I was about to replace my valvecover gasket, and thought about buying a Clifford aluminum cover but I don't think I want to spend $150 on a valve cover.

So I got creative and thought, I bet I could get the local plastic shop to bend me a cover and drill the holes for probably less then $150. Do you think lexan/plexi/etc would hold up to the oil and temperatures?

I am not doing this exclusively for having a clear cover to see the valvetrain, I just want a sturdier cover and figured, hey why not a clear cover would be neat if I could get one at the same time. Sure would be unique...

Once oil gets on them from splash, you can't see much.

If you want a cool valve cover, just do what I did and paint your valve cover with black wrinkle paint from Krylon! All it costs is a can of paint and an afternoon for prep work and drying time. 8)

Hmm... yea forget it I'll just straighten my cover as much as I can when I take it off and spend the money elsewhere.
A quick paint touchup might be in order.. the degreaser I used the other day "Oil Eater" brand, full strength as it said on the bottle, seemed to have a bleeching action on the paint, its still on there but almost white where the spray got on the cover.

At one time Doug had found someone who could make clear valve covers. IIRC, there was not enough interest to make the minimum number required for a production run.
