At the risk of sounding stupid, and considering the requirements necessary, could a regular (coolant) radiator be used as a cheap intercooler?

I'm guessing it would come down to the inlet sizes and how strong it is. Any opinions? Thanks!

I believe your flow would be quite inadequate. Airflow from turbo to engine, that is. The outlets are small, and having been designed for water to air, it has lots of capacity to move air by it, but not much for air through it. The proportions are for much less flow of water (holds lots of heat) to lose heat to air ( much greater flow than water).

Hope this makes sense to you.

Yea, that makes sense. So I'll ask this: Has anyone here done a homemade intercooler that worked?

I am not sure about that, but why not find something at the boneyard.

There are plenty of wrecked diesel trucks and other vehicles that now use even smaller intercoolers on boosted engines.

Just a thought,

Greg

Intercoolers are cheap this sounds like a mute point if you ask me mine was $70 ebay intercooler. Rad would either not work as well or take some work to make happen and unless it was free i doubt it would be less money then an ebay intercooler.
