Can anybody tell me the plant (or plants) the slant six's where cast in? Also, I assume the heads and manifolds where cast at the same place? Just curious.

Planning on goin thru their dumpster to get the patterns or somethin?

Those are the only two I know offhand. The Toluca plant was the last one to mass-produce slants. It stopped in the early 90s. However, supposedly slants are still being produced at a very low volume for fleet and industrial sales. I would love to track one of those down...

I remember hearing someone say that blocks, I believe remaned, are still availible through dealers. Who knows maybe they can get new ones?

I was just wondering because I read that the Indianapolis foundry, where Chrysler makes and has made for a long time V8's is closing in 4 years, moving production to Mexico. No, I have no line on new engines....sheesh you guys!

The slant six lasted in US-built cars through 1983, in US-built trucks until 1987, and survived as a marine engine until 1991. After USA production (in Trenton) ended, it was produced at Chrysler's Toluca, Mexico engine plant until the Magnum 3.9 liter V-6 MPI engine was introduced, continuing to serve in Mexico and possibly South America through (at least) 2003. The next new six would be a derivative of the 4.7 V8, and would be introduced in 2001, with a Hemi-based V6 reputedly to follow...

I know they were built at more than one plant, But I had always heard that the Slant Sixes were built at Trenton Engine, Trenton, MI - ironically, the same plant were the "B" engines (big block 361, 383, 400, 413, 426W and 440) were built.

The small block V-8 "A" engines (I know, off topic here) were built at Mound Road Engine in Detroit (1/2 mile south of the Warren/Detroit border), but that plant closed very recently.

I am so out of the loop with current Damlier/Chrysler production that today, I don't know what's being built where.

As an aside, if anyone cares, Hamtramck Assembly (a.k.a. Dodge Main), assembly plant "B", was torn down in the early 80's, shortly after 1980 F Body production ceased. They then tore down another- I think - 800 houses, and numerous other buildings, and GM built a huge Buick / Cadillac plant there, over the Detroit / Hamtramck border.

Lynch Road Assembly, plant "A" (I believe they built B bodies there) was sold and subdivided. There are a number of different companies there now - including The Parade Company. If you happen to see the Detroit Thanksgiving Day or New Years Day parades...those floats are stored (and built) at what used to be Chrysler's Lynch Road Assembly plant.
