I had that conversation with him before he bought them Lou. I didn't do any good.

My concern was the 7.5" length. That long of a rod will kill any torque this thing was thinking about making, but I think he's gonna put a blower on it, so that will help.

Ceej, will he do rods in steel? I kinda want a set of 6.7" steel rods.

K-1 refused, and from the crap they've sent out I'm lucky.

Too long of a rod overleverages the motor and actually creates friction instead of diminishing it. (That's one of the supposed advantages of the longer rod builds)

Will it be an issue? Maybe, maybe not. Rod angularity is a topic that has just about as much room for argument as an aluminum head thread.


Many of the K-1 rod sets had machining issues. When asked about the origin of his rods Tom at K-1 assured everyone that even though the forgings were Chinese, all the machining was done in country to the highest standards. Some have had the bearing tang slot on the wrong side, others had too small of a slot.

Kinda sad, because K-1 does have a very good reputation with a lot of premier engine shops.

It's not that long rod for 4.125" stroke. Stock 170 still has higher rod/stroke ratio, 198 even higher.

Yeah, I just haven't done the math to figure out if that would be a problem with this build. Maybe Ceej has. I guess it would also depend on whether the piston pins are offset, too, and by how much.
Yuck. Nothing to go neener-neener-neener about, though I do seem to recall raising my eyebrow to the upright-and-quality-from-China position back when the K-1 rods were first announced, and my concerns being dismissed as nothing but baseless racist bigotry.

Guess there musta been more to it than that.
