OK, guess I was going crazy for a minute there.

What about pulling the crank, turning the hole to the later size, and sticking it back in the motor? That might be easier than chasing around for a converter, since you already have a 2800 stall in stock. My shop charges about $80 for the hole enlarging (oooo, not going there).

Lou

Is there enough meat once the machine work is done? Anyone have specs on or off the top of their head?

wayne, i located the converter but haven't yet found the flex plate. it is missing the drain plug and needs the sealing surface polished with emery cloth. i will keep looking for the flex, its probably here somewhere. if you are interested, its all yours free.

this stuff has been sitting, can't guarantee that it all still works but did "work when pulled".

lou, i bet it costs more than 80 bucks to have that hole downsized.

andy.

Yes, I do this all the time to early SL6 cranks.

Basically, you go from 1 9/16 (1.563) to 1 13/16 (1.812)

Lou, Andy, and Doug thanks so much for your help. I have a real stupid question. Is there enough material to turn down the "nubbin" on the front of the converter to make it fit the crank?

Nope. The converter internals prevent this.

Owe Fur Fox Ache!

Time to do a mini rebop ......

Find dude with a good radial arm drill press.....stand that puppy on end.....shim till its level in every direction .....drill to 1 13/16.....finish by hand.

Cost no gaskets .....requires no engine rebuilding skills.....diminishes ridicule potential by half.

Disclaimer: No this is not best practices. Yes I would do this if I boxed myself in this corner. My interest is in getting this junk to a race without delay.

Dont lose the use of the 2800 stall verter. Dont delay getting that slant to a drill press.

Stop taking $#!+ apart.

Remember too Wayne, the big pilot converter will not work in an old style trans. The input shaft in the trans is different.

Please give advice but take it easy on the goober (me)!
1) Re-install stock piggie motor.
2) Go racing
3) Re-gain some respect.
4) Work on swapping 9 engines into 3 cars with 5 different transmissions after you go 1320 ft in a race!!!

PS. If you do not make it to Clay City and race, I will personally drive to your home and cut your tee-shirt off 4" above your belly button!!  Now get that car back together, Goob!

Rick

if you choose to open up the bore in the crank shaft,,
give me a shout,, would be glad to drive over, put the motor in a roll over, pull the crank... think about it,, not a bad idea to check the bottom end out anyway...look at the bearings, OP gear...
talk to your buddy Ed,, bet he can turn the crank around the same day,,
this can be your opportunity to be more bullet proof down the road...
but just do what makes sense to you.
