Is there anyway to tell if crosstalk is on before you stage?
Quote:
If the track accidently turns crosstalk on the rules will state any affected rounds must rerun without question.
What will you do if the track says we are not re-running it?

I'm just a novice racer and even more novice race coordinator, so the "KISS Principle" (Keep It Simple, Stupid) works best for me as well.

I've never thought much of the "Buy Back" or "Mulligan(?)" thing as a racer, but that's just my opinion.

If it's National Championship Points we're talking about,... I definitely DO NOT agree with Buy Backs!

I think some people would like it because if they drive 500 miles to a race and they lose in the 1st round they get a second chance. That is a long ride for 2 time runs and a loss in the 1st round.

2) Buybacks. Lots of discussion in East and West about this. Best idea I've heard is to allow buybacks, but not allow points accumulation on runs after a buyback. In other words, get more people racing in the upper rounds and sweeten the purse, but only people who have not bought back can get points for their round wins.

3) More attendance points. Raise it from 1 pt for showing up to 5 or even 10?

Lou
I'm okay with Buybacks to make the racing more interesting and give additional rounds, but definitely NOT for earning more points.

It kind of falls into that rule where racers can waive points, but race to try and keep others from earning points. (Still kinda "snively" in my opinion, but that's just me. )

More attendance points is cool. Gives more incentive for folks to show up.

No opinion or knowledge on crosstalk. Clay City Crew is very easy to work with.

That's what I meant by affecting a championship. Some may say if I beat you once I should not have to beat you again in a later round.

Thanks for the info Greg, I haven't been to Bristol for a few years and didn't know they still treated Slant Six as a Super Pro Race. It seems to me they just need to know it is to be run as a Pro or Footbrake class. Delay box cars can still compete but they won't be able to "crossover" and leave off the other lane's first light. Delay box cars have enough of an advantage that they don't need to complicate these races for everybody else.

I'm not in favor of a buy back to the main slant six event.

What I do like; Set up a "Run Tough" off the initial first round ladder, with a buy in, $20. $10 for the track, $10 for the club. make it 2 point round wins for national points. First round trailer loaders only. Make the second round in the primary race, your out.
One opportunity to race Run Tough. No second buy back options. Go out, you's done.

I second Ceej's thought, if you run a street class event and lose 1st round you go on as a spectator.

So if you have this "run tough" group with 5 cars. They would be running against each other only? And they would never come back into the main race? They would be racing for some round points and a $50 purse? Do I have this right?

Yes and Box'ed Slants are more rare now.

I think the only one I have seen in 5 years is Ron Hamby.

I dont think will has one and I am not sure about your old blue car and Rob Simmonms' Arrow? I dunno either.

Buybacks would be good for any racer traveling a long distance and losing first round loading up and going home. We all have done that numerous times. I am in favor of buybacks for that reason but in reality I cant see a way of making it happen with the number of cars we normaly have at an event. There are not enough rounds to allow buyback racers to race themselves and then blend back in in the quarterfinals or semifinals like they do in bracket races with 40 cars for example.
One for the best things we have done was begin running two races per event which gives everyone two chances to race. :D

Well Said.

I have been racing about 8 years and never bought back yet. It kind of defeats the purpose of elimination style Drag racin. If you want plenty of rounds go to Test n Tune.

I know it sucks to go out first round.. but that's Drag racing. and I am okay with that.

Yes. First round losers only, and you don't get back into the main. As far as the purse, sure, if that's the way you want to run it. Donate it, put it toward group T'shirts, or whatever. The track may want the ten spot or they may want a differing amount. Whatever makes them happy.

Face it, at some of the events we run at buy backs would be a disatser. It's hard enough to get the calss run through once without having to add in buyback cars. I am definitely not a fan of continuing to gain points after a buy back either. I have raced at tracks that do that and it always seemed unfair to the guys who win rounds and don't buy back.

There are other classes available to enter in and run if the distance is an issue.

As far as telling if Crosstalk is on or not, there is supposed to be a light on the tree to tell you which car will be leaving first, or the scoreboard will have a dash (-) in front of the dial-in of the car leaving first. Whether it is on or not really needs to be discussed with the track officials before the first round so everyone is on the same page.

I am seeing some trends here. It will be very difficult to arrange buybacks during our relatively small races.

It might be wise to make one significant change this year, like 10 pts for attending a weekend (either days or both) of racing, and leave other issues for future years. A crosstalk rule should be simple and minor.

Still, let's keep up the discussion!

Lou
