I know it's been an issue before, but I can not for the life of me understand why a track would refuse to turn off Crosstalk. It's not that big of a deal to do.

I think 10 points is too many. It puts too much weight on races attended as opposed to rounds won.

10 pts for a weekend of racing (2 races) does not seem like a lot, and would encourage participation. Or we could try 5 pts this year. At this point, I really think we need to attract more people and this could help do that. The points leaders tend to show up at more races anyway, so would get those points too.

I don't think any track has refused to turn off Xtalk, but when they forget (as they have), we need a policy.

1 point/race or 100points/race everyone gets same type of numbers/race.

The amount 5 or 10 doesn't matter all that much to me. 5 seems like it is somewhere between 1& 10.

That really is not the issue to me as long as we are all doing the same thing. The problem is just what we had last week. When are those points awarded? Do you have to be in the pits & signed up to race? Just be in town? Or something else. What if people drive in friday for a weekend race and both races are canceled before we even get to the track. Any points for anyone?

Couple years past Redding race got called for rain, Ceej and myself were on the half way mark and we didn't ask for points. Come on get over it!

Buy backs?

I don't see any way that we can integrate buybacks into our random ladders that we draw up before the race. If you have buy backs, then all of your bye runs and everything would change after the first round. That would be a nightmare to set up and run. So I would oppose them ever coming back into the main ladder.

If they stay in their own "ladder" probably could be done, but I don't see it being very easy especially if you are going to add points. If points are involved then every track on the East and the West must agree to let us run another ladder with just a handful of guys after our regular ladder. It has to be the same everywhere because of the points. Do we really think 10 different track owners will be willing to do this? I don't know. They may if they can make a little bit of $$ from it. But we will definitely have some contacting to do to see if they would allow it. At least we have some time before the banquet.

I agree, but it has to be spelled out in the rules exactly how these points will be awarded. A national championship may hang on those points some day. Best to hash it out now while it isn't a deciding factor.

I think it is already in the rules, but we could clarify. If you show up at the track for a race, you get the points, otherwise, no points. I am totally fine with having the points or not for this last weekend. I was at the track Sat eve, and would have showed up Sunday (5 min drive) if it was going to influence the outcome of my final points for the year.

I think the folks who showed up to Elk Creek and Knoxville tracks but never made a run should get the attendance points.

I can see this being more contentious if we agree that 5 or 10 points should be given for attendance rather than 1 pt. My primary goal is to encourage attendance....

At Elk Creek & Knoxville, the above part of the rule was met, I think and should get the points.

At Mason Dixon no one could meet that part of the rule for Sunday because they canceled the day before.

So clarifying for the future will be good.

OK, sounds like we need to discuss that detail.

In the past, tracks would never call off the race for the next day because racers would wait around and pay entry and there were more racers.

I want points for the 1000 mile tow to Vegas. I should get at least 18 each way.

This is drag racing. When you go out first round, take your attendance point and load the car up. It happens.

The people the point is going to matter to are going to be there anyway. Don't complicate things.

Attendance doesn't rate the same points as a round win or a record. Giving attendance points for the weekend for somebody that only shows up one day is wrong. To earn full attendance points, attend the whole weekend.

NHRA, I understand, encourages attendance with just this strategy (attendance is worth one round win). I do not see 5 or 10 pts as unreasonable and I think it could really encourage attendance for new racers. I am thinking 5 pts for one day or a whole weekend might be a good trial run for next year.

I will be interested in what the bulk of Western racers have to say about this, and we in the East will certainly discuss pros and cons in February in Pigeon Forge.

Honestly, I would limit points given to people who buy a tech card and at least stage a car for a time run.

You'd be amazed at the games people will play if you don't.

What difference does it make if you give 1 point, 5 points, or 1000 points, as long as everyone does it the same?
