I have been thinking about ditching my 13 second small block dodge truck, and doing an A body slant 6 to bracket race in sportsman class. I need it to be consistent, I will be running for track championship. Strictly race car here.

I have spent 20+ hours researching /6's over the past week but haven't seen full specs on combos that look similar to what I would run. I want minimum low 13's N/A at say 2900 pounds. I'll have slicks, spool, electric water pump, and possibly delete the alternator.

1) Basically just want to know if my target is possible with K1/Wiseco combo at however much compression I can run. Not scared of 13:1. Whatever or whoever I can find do some port work on the head with the OS valves of course. Cam can be whatever needed. 4 barrel offenhouser? intake with 750 carb on race fuel or alky. Headers.

2) My converter stalls 4400 with my small block, would this be about right for this combo?

Pretty heavy for an NA car to get those numbers. Cut some weight, and your good.
The offy is a bit restrictive. Shoot for a Clifford for better flow.

Real possible. It's a quick lesson in getting your tune right. If it's wrong, your numbers will be way off. Unlike a V8, it's got to be right on for times in that range.

Mike Jeffrey, Lexington, NE. 308/324-3576-Best Slant porter on the planet, end of discussion. :D

As Ceej said, a Clifford is a better race manifold than an Offy.

Try to stay around 11.5-1 or so, your wallet will thank you.

That converter should work well, depending on your cam choice.

Don't be afraid to put some lift in it either.

That's what I don't want to hear. Small slicks wear fast and that gets expensive if a lot of test n tuning needs to be done, lol.

Although if I mini tub and can get a 10.5" slick (Goodyear) on it, I got 200+ passes on a pair of those this year. 28x9"s (M/T) only got 100 this year before they went.

Any suggestions on cam brand? A lot of posts I find are 3-4 years old and bad mouth comp.

What part saves on my wallet with the compression ratio? All the milling or stress on parts?

I personally like Comp Cams. You can at least get some good grinds from them. Most places die of fright if you ask for more than .520" lift. If you call Mike you can also discuss cams with him.

Above 12-1 Slants get real hard on head gaskets.

Still researching here.

Factory adjustable rockers, are they fine to use in an application such as this.

Who's the favorite to get a distributor from, I'll need to lock the timing down and run it with a 6AL. I'm not real fond of Petronix, it ran like $#!+ on my SB until I finally realized it was the problem when I replaced it with an MSD. But if it works for these, that's fine.

I have gone as fast as 12.0's with stock rockers, I know Mike went faster than that. RAS used to sell rebuilt sets with shaft for under $100, but they have changed hands in the last couple years and service has been spotty at best.

I use a stock Mopar electronic distributor with the mechanical curve shortened up and it triggers an MSD-6AL. MSD Blaster II coil. By filling in the slots you can run a lot more initial timing without getting too high on total.

Bite the bullet and get a pair of Hooker Super Comp headers. You'll be happier for sure. They do show up used quite often, they are pricey new.

I personally have never used a 750 carb on a Slant, but Greg Ondayko has had good results with one on his motor.

I went 13:80's@99 with my 3200# Valiant. With a few hundred less pounds I would have been right where you want to be. I didn't have anything real fancy either. :D

Dave Mueller in OR has a 69 Valiant that is pretty much exactly what you describe - 13.20s-40s and about that wt. Your converter will stall around 3500 on a Slant. I second the Clifford intake, Jeffrey ported head, and stock rockers. Dave is running the Aussiespeed headers and they look perfect to me.

I believe you do not need a lot of lift. 0.550" is more than enough. Cam choices are not well understood in general for Slants, but folks have had success with wildly different grinds.

I am putting my 2950 lb racewt 5spd 64 Dart back together with a new 11:1 motor Wiseco/K1 and should run mid/high 13s on street tires and 3.91 gear. It ran 14.30s with 10.5:1, 0.510" cam, and stock 0.060" internals getting 24-26 MPG and driving coast to coast a few times.

I didn't think of shedding a bunch of weight, but it looks like a necessity. I can pick up the Hooker's for $450 from Jeg's with my discount and tax exempt. I'll look around for used ones though.

My biggest worry at this point is the capabilities of consistency.

Will Burns' barracuda must have a ton of gear, 11.70's @ 105 where most 12.0 cars run 112.

If your leaf springs are in good shape I've gotten a 275/55/R15 under the rear wells in my'76 duster with about 2" bulge out and no mods needed other than making sure you do have good leaf springs (5 leaf min).

The '69 valiant stock has about a 2-300 lb advantage over the late dusters, Dave also took a sawzall to the door webbing and a few other things to cut weight out of the car...(it's kind of a rust bucket when you look close enough, but it's a car Dave didn't care about so he went to town with the saw...LOL). So the car is a bit lighter than a standard street car. Dave also is using an MSD-7 for his iginition, but has confided that the MSD boxes have been flakey and poor quality lately.

I have a couple of ESC distributors I'm about to complete refurbishments on, these have no advance mechanisms so they work just fine as a locked out distributor for what you are about to do. PM if you are interested.
