Firebird will close after this weekend and may reopen in 2014,This is what NHRA said last week at the national event.
Sorry that Speedworld closed for good. I liked that track.
Greg you are too young to remember but Pittsburgh International Dragway closed in 1975 for a housing development project. It never happened. Mothernature took it over but you can still see parts of the track through the trees and weeds overgrowth. :(

Always sad to lose a track, especially to developers.

We lost US 30 30 years ago because they built houses across the street and the people who bought them bitched.

Thats like people buying a house next to a landfill and whining because it smells.

Hi Folks, just wanted to let you know that Firebird will be staying open. The first event under the new management will be the Southwest Nostalgia drags on April 13th.It' wasn't possible with everything going on to be able to reschedule our Flathead/Inliner race for this event but we will be having a get together just for fun at the event and to see how things go under the new management. If all goes well and the promoter schedules a fall race we may have a race then.I will keep you folks posted as I find out more. Moparkid, I'm going to try and get a job teching there after April 1st :P

Romeo,Firebird & Speedworld were 2 different deals. My home track Speedworld had permit issues etc. with the county & state.Firebird was gonna close to clean house of management AKA, not renewing the current managements lease of the track.Rumors were allover of what was going down over there, hopefully they can step up and make things work.
