Any of you fellas play with stepped headers? Or true merge collectors?...on my roots charged build..im thinking of running 20" or so of 1-5/8 stepping up to 1-3/4 for the last 16-18" or so for as close to equal length as possible. I would also run a true mitered merge into a 2.5" outlet for each collector.. and exiting uncorked through the drivers fender.

Im of the opinion a blower motor really doesnt care about primary length as scavenging is handled by the supercharger..but ive noticed over the years that an optimized naturally aspirated setup often responds best to all types of forced induction...just curious to see whos doin what for headers outside of the brand "C" most seem to run.

I will add that in the early 2000s..a shop i was associated with cut traditional collectors off of an aftermarket set of headers and replaced the with some burns brand collectors and we saw 15hp and 10ftlbs at the rubber on a honda nsx..that healthy gains in my opinion.obviously not for the cost of some burns..but i dont buy parts..i build them..

Mike experimented with step headers on the blue car. He did not see anything to make them worth the trouble.

He has tried merge collectors on the Stocker and has been very happy with them.

If I can get my shifter to come from the rear, and pull the lever backwards, I think I will send the long tube headers to you.....or buy some collectors, and weld them on mine. Think they would help even the shorties?

To add to this..merge collectors are as i see it..ideal due to less turbulant conditions inside the collector..smoother flow ultimately requires, or occupies rather, less room inside the collector in each pulse event which allows one to run a smallet diameter collector. For beter scavenging and a more broad power range.(area under the curve). Primary diameter and length affect operating range more so than the collector.
