They just called up the "Right" side of the ladder. Mike just went to the tech trailer to find out if he is left or right.

I think left. :D

Left side.

Mike was .019 on the tree and ran 14:788 on a 14:78 dial for the win.

Back here in the morning. :D

Sounds lke Wv and Rick are quite a bit like me. Just good old door-slammin' bracket racers. On the way home from the races yesterday, one of the guys with me, that is quite experienced at class racing, attempted to explain it to me, using Mike's car as a referance. I got a headache.
It seems, that from an NHRA legal standpoint, you can not do anything to the engine with the exception of building it to exact, factory-claimed specs.
We know that a production engine does not necessarily meet exact specs, so one can do a build, using NHRA approved replacement pistons, ensure the all the rods are exact same length, ensure that compression height and ratio is exact in all the holes, etc., etc, ad nauseum, etc.
One can run an electric fuel pump, one must run an alternator, (it doesn't say a factory alternator), Mike's running an electric water pump drive, so I assume that's legal. One could lighten up the rear with gun-drilled axles and a lightweight spool, and build a trans and torque converter to benefit the car's ability to go fast.
Using a '68 Dart as an example, I could not run a two-barrel intake and carb, as it wasn't available in '68, but Mike can as his is an '80.
This is a very simple and incomplete list of what can be done, and I'm sure there's a whole lot more restrictions than I could follow, but suffice it to say that it gets quite complicated to try to stick to a stock eliminator class.

One has to applaud Mike just for doing it, let alone actually winning, as I'm sure there's more than a little effort on his part to "keep up with the game", as it were.

Can't be there today, Mike and Dennis, but Good Luck, and don't sacrifice anything to the broken parts gods.

Roger

Roger, you basically have it. The rules are a lot more relaxed than they were 10 years ago, but there is still only so much you can do. Measure, measure, measure.

You are correct, the '68 would be 1bbl only. Tough combo to even get to run index, and you'd be in the same class as Mike.

Mike won 2nd round this morning. 3rd round will be 11:30ish.

Mike's car has to weigh 3335 w/him in it. He is heavier than that this weekend.

Woo-Hoo!...The field's gettin' smaller! Just don't get over-eager at the tree.

To just get to the fourth round in an NHRA Divisional is a major accomplishment. Mike is having a good year and one of these times he is going to go all the way. How did he go .78 on an .88 dial at only 74MPH?

Well said, Seymour.

Good question about the breakout/dial. I think he qualified at 14.45, so he must have been running it in drive and then decided to pick up some time??

Mike went 1.005 under first pass Friday and .99 second pass. Saturday conditions were better so Mike started shutting off at 1000' and hitting the brakes at the mph stripe. Not the best way to bracket race, but he ended up going 4 rounds and avoiding the horsepower hammer at Christmas.

Conditions Sunday would have allowed running all out but he had no data to dial off of so he stuck to his plan.

I believe Mr. Hladky won the thing too.

Mike was actually shocked at how fast the car went. He still had the Denver gears in the car. It should have thrown the rods out at 1100'. :D

Talked to Mike last night. He has moved up to a tie for 2nd in Division 5.

He is done for the year so his fate is in the hands of others. Loks like he will have another top 10 and maybe a top 5 this year.

Congrats to ya Mike. :D
