Had long conversation with Dave Hughes at Hughes Engines today. He said he doesn't know how the cam got out without the holes, but admitted fault.
Sent cam to them this am. They screwed it up - so let them fix it.

Here is a simple lay-out on the cam's rear journal cross-hole. I measured around the circumference with a flexable tape measure to get the positions and also approxamated it in degrees.

The cross-hole is a funny size, a bit bigger then 1/8 but smaller then 3/16, either size would work.
When you get the cam back, I would mark the positions with paint on the back flat of the cam journal and check for proper alignment. You can grind a little groove or chamfer on the journal if you need to "fine-tune" it in.

Thanks for the diagram Doc. I will check it because I don't know if the journal width on this cam is same as the OEM cam and if the holes will line up.

Dr. D,
I've always wondered...why couldn't you just have an annular oil feed by machining a shallow groove around the journal ?

Yes, that is another way to fix this, we had all 3 options in a thread below (Matt reviewed the journal groove idea)

Since the cam's manufacturer said they would drill the missing hole, that became the easy way out, we just need to make sure they get the hole positioned correctly.
