Hello ,
I have been reading this forum for quite a while now and have gathered much knowledge on the wonderful slant motors,I currently own a 71 dodge truck with a 82 225 with a proline dual weber setup, clifford split header and a msd ignition hooked to a four spd od with 3.91 gears.
My question is whether or not anyone has done a disc swap on a 60 valiant. I have a chance to purchase a very cherry 60 valiant with a 170 that has been profesionly rebuilt but the car needs to be reassembled and considering that i will want to drive it alot and that ill be taking my children with me most of the time i would like to upgrade the brakes and wheel bp.I know that these were the original a bodys but how much if any will interchange with the 63 up cars.I have a rear from a 65 a-100 that will fit the rear. Any help will be much appreciated and might even make a difference whether or not i buy the car.THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

I'll be looking to do the same on my '61 Valiant so my previous search of the old message board content brought up the following thread:

This swap can and has been done a few times in the past. The person who has done it the most is a guy named Dave York, he was in the San Diego area last time I knew.

I have personally never done this conversion but I have a good amount of info. on doing it. Once I get to my other computer, I will see what I can pull together on this.

Just as a "lead-in", the best way to do this job is to dump the odd-ball 60-61 suspension parts and change-over to the 62-66 stuff. It is pretty straight forward and parts are easy to find for the later system.

I read this thread and that on the old board. Do I understand correctly that even though the body style remained unchanged in 1962 from the 1960-61 models, the Valiant got new steering parts in '62? Or did this happen in 1963, when they restyled the body? Bill Crowell, '62 Valiant V-200 4-door sedan.

The suspension change happened for 62.
62 Valiants and Lancers have the same suspension as the 63-66 cars, infact, all the parts except for the K-frame are the same as other A-Bodies up to 76.

Bill, You are lucky to have a 62 for an early car, parts are hard to find for the 60-61 suspension system.

thank you all very much,i ended up buying a 61 valiant(not the one i was looking at) with a 225 and a 3 spd for 550$ and i found a 62 lancer with a aluminum 225 for 300$ but not sure about it.
my plans for the valiant is upgrading the braking and suspension for spirited driving(already have a front sway bar from addco) a turbo setup from a 2.2 chrysler product and a 5-spd (are you listening Dart 270).
i just signed up for this board and i am sure that i will learn alot.
thank you very much

Mark,

I've got my ears on. The 5spd is some work, but is a blast to drive in all situations.

Would you be interested in selling that aluminum 225 if it's not corroded? I'm in Chapel Hill, NC, so not too far away. What shape is that Lancer in?

Cheers,

Lou
