Hi all,

I am in the process of cleaning up my transmission and looking for one shift linkage, tab, and the shifter. The missing tab seems to be bent at a slight angle. I have access to brake presses and water jets at work so could like fabricate the tab. How close do you think I need to get angles for the part to function correctly? Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,

Paul

If you are making all from scratch then you don't actually need factory parts.

If you get a b&m or hurst shifter from you favorite speed parts place or swap they can work.

They are cable actuated so they work with virtually any car body / trans combo.

I have a hurst promatic in the race car.

Swap meet find. Got the correct shifter arm from summit.

Making the kick down work is another topic. This is all with an automatic 904 trans. 727 would be similar.

Thanks for the reaponse,

I have found sets online, but I don't want to pay 200-600 dollars for the parts. I only have 200 in the transmission and it just isn't econical. Like I said, what I need to know is the angle of that bent attachment.

The first ploblem is you haven't really defined what piece(s) you are looking for. What kind of shifter? What year car? Etc. They made lots of different ones.

Sure,

I am building a rat rod. The motor is out of a 73-74 Dart, but the transmission is out of a 1980 Dodge Van. I am not picky, I just need parts that fit and preferably with what I have. Here is a photo of the transmission and linkages I do have.

Oh. A manual trans...

Ebay....probably the best place for a good used shifter and shift arm. Yes, you could make the arm but that's a lot of work for something you can find cheap, used.

Reverse Shift Tab is the same for all platforms, the shift linkage rod is platform specific...since you pulled from a van, you will need the van reverse shift rod, and the van attaching plate and a universal hurst shifter, then shift stick to make it work...

If you don't have to worry about a cross member being in the way, you can install the shifter and the tabs and make your own rods to fit from a kit or fabricate them (they are hardened, FYI)...

D.I.

Thank for the info. My main issue is finding anything "cheap". People really want an arm and leg for this old stuff.

Paul

Also thanks to Gregcon for the link.
