Hey Racecar builders,

We are getting some body work going on my new '66 V100 "Project V" and I am contemplating removing the drip rail (rain gutter) entirely and making a smooth surface there. If anyone has done this, please give me any tips you found. My goal is a cleaner look and better aerodynamics for high speed road racing.

I know Doug has a '64/'65 "Da'Cuda" that he did this on, but I'm sure there are others out there.

Looks like we can just chop the rail off at the roof line with a grinder or sawsall, then grind/sand smooth.

If I don't hit 140 with this car on a track straightaway, I won't be happy. :o

Thanks,

Lou

Lou,
The drip rail is actually a spot weld seam so once you cut it off, you need to reweld the seam flush. (A "mini-mig" welder works well for this)

Thanks Doug.

I actually looked at this last night, and you are absolutely correct. Looks like a bear, but it might still be worth it. Cutting off the outer vertical part seems like it would be fairly easy without disturbing the spot welds.
