I "smoked" my second voltage regulator. When I turn on the ignition my regulator fries. This is the second one that I destroyed. I have checked the manuals and cannot find the reason. i think it has something to do with the resistance or wiring.

Does anyone know where to start.
:( :(

the only voltage to it should be the wire from the ballast resistor thats spliced into the "I" wire of reg.........i'd have to guess either 1 of the 2 field wires is shorted or a problem internally with the alternator.

:o It is fixed. The only thing I did was swap connections at the ballast resistor and it stopped frying requlators.

Guess that was the cause.

Try a one wire style alternator... you pull the plug on the original regulator, run a single wire from the alternator to the battery, and voila no worries. Been running a powermaster 200A one wire with no issues.
