It's Phil's Automotive in Waynesboro, Pa. (Actually Quincy,Pa) I will get you a phone number. I called and asked what a .120 cut would be and he said that it would be about the same as mine, $80

Honestly, $150 isn't too bad for a .125" mill. That's a lot of passes with the cutter. :D
That's true..

I talked to a guy about having a cut of 110 done today. He said it is time consuming because it only takes off about 4 thousandths a pass.

When I had my head milled I also had it totally rebuilt with some special kind of new valve stem seal. Total cost was something like $500. The new valve stem seals required machining, too.

I started out with a head that was already .025. Then had another .100 removed (cost $65.00). Chambers wound up at 39 cc's.

I think Lou had one head "angled" milled .100 on one side and .200 on the other side, but he will have to confirm.

Hopefully they weren't positive seals, those work OK for racing but aren't recommended for street use.

I know Putzie did an angle mill too.

does anyone know how far you can go before on an angle mill before the bolt holes wont line up properly?

I think if you look up angle mill Lou had done this and the milling mentioned was about the limit the bolts would allow.

Wouldn't you have to spot mill the bolt holes so there isn't an angle under the bolt head?

If the angle is slight enough there is enough tolerance in the holes to be off a little...I suspect that anything out an 1/8" or more would need extra attention. Spotfacing would be needed for proper clamping force, but we'll have to wait for Lou to catch up to the thread and see what he did.

I think hardened washers would allow this to work. The mismatch would be shared by the bolt head and the washer....cutting the variation in half and making it negligible.

I agree anything over .125 would require additional attention.

.....things dont always have to be "right" to work.

I have done a 0.080"/0.180" cut (manifold/plug sides), and up to 0.110"/0.210" on one head. No bolt or washer funny business of any kind. The angles are very slight. One was a 68-74 head and one was a 64 head. These have been on and off motors many times with no problems. Head chamber ranges from 30-40 cc's depending on which mill and which valves/seats you use. Don't make anything more complicated than it needs to be is my motto.

Lou

Called a local machine shop and he said no more than $100 for a 110 cut.
